Apparently I not as commented to this blogging stuff as I thought I was going to be. Well, I guess I'm going to have to catch you up on what I've been up to. Firstly I'm done with my college's spring semester and this Sunday I'm going to Florida for a week-long Christian summer conference. What a great way to kick off the summer :). I am also looking forward to starting some new projects this summer too. So, stay tune ;)

Recently I have finished this mixed-media piece called “These Eyes.” It's a small drawing that I colored with watercolors, charcoal, and detailed it with an extra fine Fiber-Castell pen. I'm always having random ideas for art projects in my head. And for the past several weeks, I was just aching to draw a surrealistic portrait of a girl with blue eyes that would be in contrast with a darker background. Finally, I was finished this semester this week and I was able to complete this piece.

And down the rabbit hole you go...

In the beginning of this month, I was working on a piece that was inspired by the White Rabbit from Charles L. Dodgson's famous novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. After I had finished the rough pencil drawing, I went over it with pen and began painting the background with watercolors. At first I thought about giving the little guy pink eyes, like the original White Rabbit. But unfortunately it only gave him an eerie possessed look rather than the sweet appearance that I had in mind. Slightly frustrated, I painted over the eye with white acrylic paint and took a break from the project.

A couple weeks later, I started back up again. :)

Today, I finished the illustration, colored the rabbit's eye blue (to give it a gentler look), and added the final details. For the pocket watch I wanted to give it a bizarre Wonderland feel. So instead of numbers I drew the symbols (also known as suits) found in a deck of cards. And each of the three hands of the watch presents a tiny white bunny. I didn't have any gold colored paint, but I thought that gold glitter nail-polish did the trick. ;)

^^ Hello

"But I'm always dreaming, even when I'm awake; it is never finished."-Lady Amalthea (The Last Unicorn, movie)

If I had to sum up myself in a quote, I think that would be it. Ever since I could remember, I have always been daydreaming, lost in my own secret world. And even at a young age I have expressed my imagination through drawing. Unicorns, mermaids, and beautiful princesses would appear on any piece of paper that wasn't kept away from my trusty Crayola markers and I.

Flash forward seventeen years later and I still haven't stopped drawing. And those little unicorns and mermaids? Yup, they still decorate my notebooks when I should really be studying. But it's still safe to say that I have grown out of those Crayola markers. At least for now. :) Nowadays, I am a student at my city's community college taking basic courses and then transferring to an art school to earn a bachelors in Graphic Design. My dream is to someday become an illustrator for children's books. Many illustrators such as my wonderful aunt Virginia Roeder; and Trina Schart Hyman are just two of my many inspirations for reaching this goal.

In honor of the new year, I have decided to start a blog to record the process of my artwork and present it to whoever is interested in looking at it. And perhaps I'll also write about whatever will catch my fancy. Thanks for stopping by, and happy reading! :)

These two peices are actually from last year, but I just wanted to give y'all a sample of my artwork. You can see more at http://purplemango1.deviantart.com/gallery/
